Presentation of the Irish Flag

A number of weeks ago, the children of Marshalstown were very excited to receive two special guests into our school.

The arrival of two soldiers from the Irish Army caused great excitement amongst staff, children and parents. The soldiers came to present Marshalstown NS with an Irish flag and a copy of the proclamation which was read out on the steps of the GPO in 1916.

The children of 4th, 5th and 6th Classes sang Amhrán na bhFiann and played Ireland’s Call on the tin whistle. A section of the proclamation was read by one of our 6th class boys while the remainder of the children of 5th and 6th class recited the WB Yeats poem The Lake Isle of Inisfree.

Children from all classes were then able to participate in a question and answer session with the soldiers after the presentation. Students from 5th Class and Junior Infants received the Tricolour and Proclamation on behalf of Marshalstown NS.
