Skip Around Europe Challenge
WOW! What a great start to our Skip around Europe Challenge. We are really enjoying skipping to different countries in this beautiful sunshine!! Take a look at some of our action shots so far!

6th class joined up with Junior Infants to help teach them how to skip. Ms Kehoe was delighted with the progress they made after one day so we have scheduled more double skipping sessions again!

Active Breaks Challenge
All classes took part in an Active Breaks challenge, this involved inside breaks and outside breaks depending on the weather. 10@10 became very popular. 6th class joined with Ms. McCarthy’s ASD class in some peer running too which turned out to be very successful and will be continued throughout the year!

St Patrick’s Day Races
As part of Green Schools and Active Schools Flag all the boys and girls were asked to make St Patrick’s Day Hat’s out of recycled materials and to take part in a fun parade and race!!

Active Halloween
We had a wonderful active Halloween today in Marshalstown N.S! Lots of dancing, music and parades!
All the children dressed up for halloween and we all came outside and marched and ran around in front of each other.
We had our halloween music full blast outside where all classes showed off their dance moves.
Junior and Senior Infants danced the feet off themselves! Well done!!
ALSO some Active teachers were spotted here and there throughout the day encouraging everyone to dance and move! We wonder who they were????

Pumpkin Flavoured PE games.

Active Break Challenge (November 8th- December 3rd)
All classes took part in the active break challenge which many classes did 10 @ 10/
This was so successful that classes have kept this going throughout the whole year and it is now a daily routine!!
Here is 5th class taking part in a wall sit challenge for active break challenge. We were inspired by The Fittest Family show for this challenge.
Ms. Morrissey wasn’t able to keep up with the girls and boys in 5th class!
When the children couldn’t hold it for any longer they jogged around the field to keep moving. Great fun was had!!

2nd Class were doing plenty of moving for our movement break challenge! They had great fun dancing and doing exercises in the classroom!
This also has become a daily routine and they children in 2nd class are absolutely loving it!

3rd Class did skipping for their Active movement break challenge each day and have absolutely loved getting out and skipping!
They have shown massive improvement in their skipping skills and again this movement break of skipping is still going strong! They are getting very prepared for our climb the heights challenge coming up!!!

Santa Dash!!!!!!
Wow what a day!! Boys and girls from all classes had a great time at our Santa Dash! They each had a timetable to come out and complete all our Christmas themed games.
There was plenty of games and some of the favourites were: “What time is it Santa?” or “Pin the baubles on the tree!” or “Pass the Parcel” or “Hide the Elf”
SANTA and MRS CLAUSE were even spotted around the school racing each other!!!
I wonder who won???? 5th and 6th class were seen chasing them too! What a great day!!!!

Climb the Heights Challenge
Children from 2nd-6th class are currently taking part in the ‘Climb the Heights Challenge’ and are really enjoying it. Many classes are continuing the 10@10 and some are skipping during this time too!! Well done everyone!
The girls and boys from each class have become better and better at skipping and it’s great to hear that so many of them have bought skipping ropes for themselves. We have even spotted some teachers display excellent skipping skills and challenging the students to beat their targets!
Ms. Waters also created an amazing powerpoint for each class of images of the mountains that we are climbing! This motivated the children even further to reach their heights!!
Click here to have a look at the amazing powerpoint! Thank you Ms. Waters!!
Climb The Heights – AS challenge
Here is 5th Class trying to get in as many skips as possible to reach their mountain of the day!

Pupil Leadership
Playground leaders
5th and 6th class have fantastic playground leaders working with others in their class at lunch time. Due to Covid restrictions at the beginning we have to keep our leaders just working with their own group. But they are doing a fantastic job and having loads of fun and they will be ready for when the restrictions are lifted and we can mix out on yard!!

Playground Leaders
Walkway Launch Day!!!!!
#feelgoodfridays
WOW what a day!! We have officially launched our walkway at Marshalstown National School.
Every class had different activities to complete around the walkway and we each had a time to go out and complete the walkway. We had so much fun from Junior Infants all the way to 6th class.
The boys and girls from 5th and 6th class created amazing art work to help with our launch day! Each class was completing different tasks and it was great to get feedback from the students on ideas and what they thought!
The boys and girls can’t wait to use the walkway now with so many different activities and challenges ahead!

Run around Ireland Challenge
All classes in the school took part in the run around Ireland challenge. We used our basketball court, soccer pitch, walkway and Slí na Sláinte to complete this. It was great to see the boys and girls really enjoying running and then using their maths to add up all their laps as KM to see where they got to!
Each class kept their chart on the door to show other classes how far they ran! It was great to see the girls and boys filling in their own charts for running they did outside of school and with their families.
We have enjoyed the run around Ireland so much that we have kept the challenge going and the children are really enjoying.
With Rackard league in full swing it’s great fitness training for all the girls and boys involved too!!!

Feel Good Fridays!!!
Wow what a day of fun activities!!! Since we missed half of our activities at the end of our Active Schools Week we organised them today instead so it was a great treat for all classes.
Big thank you to 5th and 6th class for helping the classes and demonstrating the different games.
The drain pipe challenge was something new and a big hit!!! Well done everyone and HAPPY FRIDAY!!!
