Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st Class have been super busy this week learning all about homes and houses during their Aistear time. They have been using language such as detached, semi-detached, terraced, two storey, bungalow, kitchen, living room etc. Using this knowledge, they have been making some wonderful creations at their Aistear stations. Autumn adventures!
Junior and Senior Infants have been super busy learning all about Autumn and the changes we see during this beautiful season. We created our wonderful art work using cotton buds. We also worked hard in Science and we learned all about planting. We designed faces on our potatoes and placed cotton wool and cress inside the hole in our potatoes. We can’t wait until our potato people grow hair at home. Happy Autumn everyone!

Mary had a little lamb!
Junior Infants have been very busy learning all about the season of Spring and life on the farm. Here they are singing “Mary had a little lamb”. Haven’t they wonderful voices? Great job everyone! 🙂
Little Blue Riding Hood
The Senior Infants have been very busy during the past few weeks. They have written and illustrated their own story called Little Blue Riding Hood. In addition to this, the Senior Infants have created and narrated their own video to accompany their story! Well done everyone! Special delivery for Senior Infants!
Senior Infants have been busy learning about the post office. We have learned that you can do lots of things in the post office like send letters, buy stamps, save money, get licences and even apply for a passport!
During Aistear, we were very busy. We set up a post office in role play, made our own post boxes and wrote letters to each other. We really enjoyed putting our letters into envelopes and putting a stamp on them. We posted our letters into the class letter box and waited patiently for them to arrive.
Then the exciting day came! Our postperson Ger came into our class to deliver our letters! He posted them into our own letter boxes and at the end we got to ask him some questions about his job. Do you know he delivers to 500 houses every day?
We really enjoyed learning all about the post office 🙂
Thank you to Ger for being so kind and delivering our letters.
Junior Infants go farming!
This month the Junior Infants are down on the farm. In construction, we are building a farm from our wonderful happy architect set. In sand, we are busy ploughing fields to get ready for the harvest. The role play area are very busy working on the farm. They are tending to the animals in the field who have had a tricky few days because of the snow. The playdoh area are making farm animals and machinery. We love farm life here in Junior Infants even though some roads have been blocked because of the snow and treacherous conditions!
Garda Checkpoint!
These gardaí were busy in Marshalstown recently. Luckily, no suspicious behaviour was noticed and all vehicles were being driven at a safe speed through the village! Keep up the good work everyone! 🙂
Junior Infants Learning Log
Junior Infants have had a busy few weeks in their classroom. Last week they learned all about the produce that a farm can grow and opened their own shop to sell all the fruit and vegetables! They also began using the ipads when they were practicing their new letter sounds. This week they are exploring the theme of Halloween and the fancy dress shop. The 5th and 6th Class children, along with their teacher Miss McCarthy, made a witches den. It is a very spooky place! The Junior Infants and their teacher, Miss Butler, would like to thank the 5th and 6th class and their teacher for all of their hard work that went into creating the den.
Down on the farm!
Junior and Senior Infants have been very busy learning about life on the farm for the past number of weeks. They are exploring the theme of the farm through Aistear. As you can see they have made some wonderful farm animals out of clay while their farm area in the classroom is also very true to life. Miss Butler made the wonderful farm area background and fence and, together with Miss Dobbs, added some props to make a very realistic farm in the classroom. Senior Infants publish the Three Little Dogs
The Senior Infant classroom has been a hive of activity in the past week. They decided that although the tale of the Three Little Pigs was good, they knew that they could write a much better story. Everyone worked together to suggest ideas and discuss them and soon the story of the Three Little Dogs came to life. Miss Dobbs was given the job of typing the story when the children had completed the final draft as they were also busy illustrating the text. I’m sure you’ll all agree that the Senior Infants did a fantastic job and the Three Little Dogs will become a bedtime favourite in many homes around Marshalstown. 🙂
Invitations to the premiere of the story and movie itself were also designed and created by the children.
