5th class and Junior Infants joined up for some paired reading and they had great fun!
They both took turns reading their books to each other and we are so impressed with all their amazing reading!!
Well done everyone!!

This year each class wrote, illustrated and published their own book as part of the ‘Our Class Book’ Project. Today local author Caroline Busher came to the school to launch the books. Caroline also ran short reading and writing workshops with the children throughout the day.

Junior Infants have been busy learning about the seaside. Today we worked extremely hard and write our own interesting report about a crab. We hope you enjoy reading it. Well done everyone! 🙂
We were very lucky here in Marshalstown to receive a visit from the well known Wexford author, Caroline Busher, as part of our activities to celebrate World Book Day. Caroline has published two books, The Ghosts of Magnificent Children and The Girl who ate the Stars. Every class in the school were treated to a writing and reading workshop where they learned her top tips for creating their own stories. A certain boy in Third Class was also delighted with the visit as he is Caroline’s own son!
We would like to thank Caroline for taking time out to visit us and for helping to inspire the children to write their own books.
Here you can see the Junior and Senior Infants having a wonderful time in their workshop. 🙂
Junior Infants have been very busy learning all about the season of Spring and life on the farm. Here they are singing “Mary had a little lamb”. Haven’t they wonderful voices? Great job everyone! 🙂
The children of Marshalstown NS had a wonderful World Book Day. They dressed up as their favourite characters from their favourite books. In the morning, the junior classes did some shared reading with the senior classes. Everyone brought their favourite books with them to read to their new friends.
Lots of children brought in some books to school from home that they no longer wanted. These books were gathered together by the class teachers and every child who brought in a book got to swap it for another book. This was a great success!
World Book Day is a great way of promoting that reading can be fun and we are looking forward to next year’s Book Day already!
The Senior Infants have been very busy during the past few weeks. They have written and illustrated their own story called Little Blue Riding Hood. In addition to this, the Senior Infants have created and narrated their own video to accompany their story! Well done everyone! Click on the link below to view and hear the story of Little Blue Riding Hood.
Junior Infants have had a busy few weeks in their classroom. Last week they learned all about the produce that a farm can grow and opened their own shop to sell all the fruit and vegetables! They also began using the ipads when they were practicing their new letter sounds. This week they are exploring the theme of Halloween and the fancy dress shop. The 5th and 6th Class children, along with their teacher Miss McCarthy, made a witches den. It is a very spooky place! The Junior Infants and their teacher, Miss Butler, would like to thank the 5th and 6th class and their teacher for all of their hard work that went into creating the den.
Congratulations to Caoimhe in 6th Class who came joint 3rd in the Eason’s Spelling Bee in Gorey on Tuesday morning. Her teacher, Miss McCarthy, is very proud of her as indeed are all the staff and children in Marshalstown NS. Well done Caoimhe! 🙂
