Junior Infants Learning Log

Junior Infants have had a busy few weeks in their classroom. Last week they learned all about the produce that a farm can grow and opened their own shop to sell all the fruit and vegetables! They also began using the ipads when they were practicing their new letter sounds.  This week they are exploring the theme of Halloween and the fancy dress shop. The 5th and 6th Class children, along with their teacher Miss McCarthy, made a witches den. It is a very spooky place! The Junior Infants and their teacher, Miss Butler, would like to thank the 5th and 6th class and their teacher for all of their hard work that went into creating the den.

Maths problems? Solve it with Lego!

The children in Marshalstown NS have been enjoying their Maths lessons more than usual during the past week. They have been using and developing their problem solving skills through the medium of Lego.

By following a given engineering design, the children are investigating, constructing and working through their observations all while reasoning and thinking critically as the build progresses. At the same time, they are expanding upon their collaborative and co-operative skills by working with a partner.

Click on the photographs below to have a closer look at the young engineers and designers in action!
