March in Junior Infants

Junior Infants have been busy learning about Spring time and the farm. We have been learning about the life cycle of the frog and we were so excited when Ms McCarthy brought tadpoles in for us to look at. We have been working on the theme of the farm in Aistear and we have been very busy looking after the farm and caring for all of the animals. We know lots about the life cycle of the chicken and we decided to create the life cycle during Art. We also celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by designing our pots of gold. We hope you enjoy our work. We are so proud of it.  We would like to wish everyone a very Happy Easter.

March in Senior Infants & 1st Class

Another busy month has flown by in the Senior Infants and 1st Class room. This month we have been exploring the themes of Ireland, the Post Office and the Supermarket.

We have learned how to sing Ireland’s Call and Amhrán na bhFiann so we are ready to support our favourite Irish teams in the Aviva stadiums, Croke Park or Wexford Park! We also had great fun singing the Rattlin’ Bog!! That was such a tongue twister!!

As you can see we created some beautiful St Patrick’s Day paintings as we also designed our own stamps.

Well done everybody for working so hard this month!

February in Senior Infants & 1st Class

Look at some beautiful artwork that Senior Infants and 1st Class created in February. As we learned about the Chinese New Year and discovered that it was the year of the rabbit, we were inspired by the Irish artist Audrey Hamilton to create our own rabbit paintings. We also didn’t forget to show some love for Valentine’s Day as well!

World Book Day-Read all about it!

We celebrated World Book Day in Senior Infants and First Class last Thursday. Everybody dressed up as a character from their favourite book and brought in books to share and exchange with each other. Senior Infants enjoyed some reading time with 3rd Class while 4th Class came to 1st Class and spent some time reading with them. Everyone really enjoyed spending time reading together.

We also made the characters from our favourite books into finger puppets. Click on the photos for a closer look! 🙂

STEAM Programme

The STEAM programme culminated with a session where we designed posters and charts to highlight the topics covered in the previous sessions and all that was explored and learned in those.

The class worked hard to create a wonderful display and its great to see teachers and students stopping on their way by to read the posters.

World Book Day

On Thursday 2nd of March as we celebrated World Book Day. Everyone was encouraged to dress up on the day as a character from a book, and as you can see it resulted in a very peculiar collection of characters in our classroom!

We got stuck into exploring all the books in our class library, and found books in there that we didn’t even know we had. We worked together to create categories for our books, with many debates and lively discussions in the course of completing the job! The ‘Stop, Drop, and Read’ part of the job was fun too and there were people reading all sorts of news books in all sorts of places.

We worked adding some embellishments to our portrait display and created some wonderful interpretations for covers and synopses of our favourite books..

At the end of the day we had a special visit from 2nd Class, but we were so busy sharing books and enjoying read-alouds that we forgot to take many photographs.

World Book Day in Junior Infants

Junior Infants celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as a character from their favourite book. We also designed our own book covers. We then popped down to visit 5th class to have a chat about our favourite book. 5th class were so kind to us. They chatted with us and read to us. We had so much fun and really enjoyed the day.
